Title of dissertation: Curatorial Practice Embedded in the City. A Case Study of Curating New Genre Public Art in the Festival Context

Tuukkanen research focuses on the curatorial practices of new genre public art in a festival context. The research is a case study. Through 5 cases, both international and Finnish, it contributes to the conversation about redefining curation and its current practice.

Johanna Tuukkanen completed her doctoral studies at the department of Music, Art and Culture Studies and the Unit of Cultural Policy at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Tuukkanen defended her doctoral dissertation in Art Education “Curatorial Practice Embedded in the City. A Case Study of Curating New Genre Public Art in the Festival Context” in August 2020. Tuukkanen’s recent articles include Dialogues, places, spaces and situations: ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival as an enabler of encounters (2016) by the Finnish Centre for Cultural Policy Research, Cupore in the book Festivals in Finland.
