Panopticon

low pirtu 02

Do we feel that we are under constant control and monitoring? Do the images from the body and appearance produced by advertising and media cause us anxiety? How to deal with estheticized violence against women and so-called ”heroin chic” fashion images that we see in fashion magazines? Do we monitor and control our bodies unnoticed, quietly repeating the disciplinary norms of our society? Is this it possible to let go of this control, and what could it mean? Can we play with it, are we allowed to laugh at it?

These issues are reflected by artist professor Pirjo Yli-Maunula and dance artist Johanna Tuukkanen together with lighting designer Ainu Palmu, sound designer Anssi Laiho and costume designer Heidi Kesti. What answers and further questions they have found will be seen in the piece, the name of which refers to the circular jail, controlled from its´ center, Panopticon.
